Orlik Nad Bitavou - heard of it??!!Today is the last proper day of our trip! Sob sob!! Got up and finally went to see Staromestske nam (the old square) properly. Stood around with all the other lemons waiting to watch the astronomical clock on the tower of the old town hall hit the hour making a fancy display of a skeleton hitting a bell, some rotating figures and a cockerel. The size of the crowd was disturbing! Saw the other old buildings including the Tyn Church with twin gothic steeples and the othe St Nicholas Church, all really pretty. Then saw the Jewish quarter called Josefov, again really pretty with stunning gold stencilling. Saw the Old Jewish Cemetery, the Old-New Synagogue and the Maisel Synagogue too. Didn’t have time to tackle the pedaloes unfortunately, so did some last minute shopping - yay! We had planned to spend the very last night at Eva’s parent's house because we thought it was on the way home. It wasn’t. It was 2 hours in the wrong direction in the middle of nowhere. There was maybe 10 houses? It was called Orlik Nad Bitavou. Her parents didn’t speak a word of English so conversation was interesting. They had such a cute house though with a huge garden. Her dad was a legend too; he looked dead hard and had built a massive veranda in the garden with a roof and a mahoosive stone oven thing at the back and a fire place and table - hard to describe how cool it was! But he built it all himself. It had a massive slab of marble in the fire which they used to cook us a feast! Beautiful chicken and giant hash brown thingies. They had made so much effort; Czech people are the kindest I’ve met. Her dad was determined to get us drunk and her mum wouldn’t stop bringing us food! Some of Eva’s friends from the village came round, they didn’t speak a word of English either, but we still had fun trying to learn Czech tongue twisters! Then we trekked across the fields to the village pub. I think we were the first English people the locals had ever seen. Probably the first people they've ever seen who weren’t from the village! Had one last night getting drunk with crazy Eva, can’t describe how sketchy she is, but she's so lovely! Prague - castles, steaks and brownie bellsWe went to see the castle today - it's mahooosive!! And soooooooo beautiful!! Shame its on top of a massive hill though. Saw St Vitus Cathedral within the castle grounds, which was also stunning. It has the most amazing stained glass windows that make beautiful patterns on the walls inside. We went down Golden Lane which is a tiny side alley lined with lots of tiny little shops with even tinier doors built into the castle walls. Inside one was a torture museum which also had an impressive collection of weapons, and ant got to fire a crossbow. He did pretty well, didn't quite manage an alpaca though. Later on we met up with marky and cat in the palace gardens. From there there are great views of the city and all its spires. Had our daily nap in the park before heading out to find a legendary steakhouse. We passed through the old square again and were surrounded by hundreds of Spurs fans getting wasted before the match against Prague. Me and cat were so embarrassed to be English, some of them were even doing lines of coke off car roofs. Found the steak house, it was b.e.a. utiful!!! Found a wicked bar; it was underground with loads of cellars all connected by tiny staircases. Could’ve easily got lost in there! The lighting was really cool and the atmosphere was lively but chilled at the same time - perfect! Also it was pretty cheap, actually dangerously cheap. Wine was 50p a glass! As it was our last night in Prague, and the last night of the trip really, we inevitably found ourselves rather tipsy! got carried away on the table football again and I commandeered a square inch of our table that we were hanging on to and started counting the grains in the wood in the tune of brownie bells - '1234.....1234' - oh dear!! We found this hilarious, don’t really remember why! Randomly had some potatoes from a kebab house - why???!! And did a fairly good job of terrifying some Aussies, don’t think they'll be visiting the UK for a while!! All in all, a very successful night enjoyed by all!!! Prague - very uneventful but very silly day!Headed off for a lazy day in Kampa Park with a picnic today but it still turned out to be quite entertaining. We got harassed by the drunkest hobo I’ve ever seen! He was so old and looked like Jim out of the Vicar of Dibley (the no, no, no, no yes man!). After begging marky for his last fag and to play football (how funny would that have been?!) he crashed in a heap on the floor for about 6 hours, scratched his butt for 20 minutes, then had his willy out for a bit terrifying the park. Full points. Who’d have thought we'd get so much amusement out of a hobo? Ant had a few dog issues, got some loving from the cutest little puppy, this puppy then took on a rotweiller, then took on a baby! Then whilst playing Frisbee ant got attacked by a savage beast. Very funny. At dinner I made a fool of myself by accidentally huffing at the waiter because he didn’t understand 'hot chocolate with rum' - oops! According to Marcus it was a patronising sigh - mocked by all! On the sausage dog count front - we saw 9 today! wowza!! Bumped into Eva on the way home; she is sooooooooo funny with her house key! She’s lived there for a month now and still can’t get into her own house coz she can’t work the key!! It makes her collapse in hysterics! We went back to the smoky pub on the other side of town, had a bit of a mission on the tram getting there. There are lots of weird shots in the Czech Republic, Eva likes to make us have these shots! Played the most exciting table football match ever, was great! Had a minging burger. Eva was hammered and didn’t know how to get home so she was talking to EVERYONE! Everyone on the tram found it highly amusing! Managed to find our way home, popped into a 24 hour pub next door to Eva’s where nobody spoke any English - not even beer!! Sorry this post is gonna be pretty boring for you lot back home; this one's kinda just for us to look back and giggle at! One of those 'had to be there' days I’m afraid! Anyways, hope you're all well, thanks for the emails, heaps of love, lani and ants xxx Prague - people watching rocks!Dragged ants out of bed, got a tram into town, had a weird big flat hash brown type thing, then set off to be tourists! Went up the tower at the Charles Bridge and took in the stunning view of the city skyline, so many spires, apparently there's about 300! Some random man from Belgium wanted to take our photo for a portfolio on lovers in parade - quickly said no way José! The bridge itself is huge and so elegant! It’s rammed with tourists, jazz bands and souvenir stalls. Very pretty though, the walls are lined with 30 statues and the towers at each end are impressive. We visited the St Nicholas Church, the biggest and prettiest church in Prague (according to our guide book) and strolled around Mala Strana, the little quarter underneath the castle. Then, as normal, made our way to the nearest park for a nap! Honestly, this year has just been one big napping tour of the world! Kampa Park is a broad grassy swathe on a low-lying island beside the river so it’s really pretty and popular. In the park we saw some police dogs taking down a big fat guy - so cool. The dog even knew to snatch the gun away from him! Napped some more and sampled pragian ice cream - most important, then met marky and cat for a beer. A pint of beer costs 40p! We headed back to Eva’s and got lost on the trams! We ended up taking five different trams for a journey that should have taken one! then went out for a ridiculously expensive Mexican meal (was really good though) before trekking to the old square where I caught a glimpse of the pretty buildings and monuments that I will drag ant to see tomorrow! Here we found a really cool bar/club thingy and saw the best dance off ever! Sorry Dane! Also met a guy who looked just like the geek out of American pie, and kinda acted just as geeky, harsh, but true! But he clapped well! It was a great night for people watching! notes to self: horrible chavs in matching trackies trying to pull dance off-ers, pirouette boy break dancing, American hussies, monkey boy in a skin tight England shirt, nasty individual who I cant work out how to describe, but I’m sure I’ll remember her. Ant does a cracking impression. Note to others: I promise I’m not a horrible person, these notes may sound harsh, but ant, marky and cat will agree! Oh yeah, as most of you know, ant is obsessed with sausage dogs, and Prague has a ridiculous amount of them! Today alone we saw 6!! and also, on our way home from the chateau rouge club 3 French guys started slagging us off in French to each other, not realising that we could understand every word they were saying! Sometimes I love having the English reputation of being too arrogant to learn any languages; people always assume we can’t understand them - wrong!! xx Prague - crazy but lovely evaAfter a beautiful brekkie (can’t beat a free brekkie of egg and sausage baps - yummo!!) we set of for the Czech Republic. On route we passed through a 7km long tunnel through the mountains, stopped at the sketchiest petrol station ever in the middle of nowhere, and discovered the lamest, dumbest caravan ever!! It was smaller than our tent and slower than us putting up the tent. We must have overtaken it 4 or 5 times over the 6 hours because of all our munchie stops and pee stops! Then we crossed the border - oh dear!! We were greeted by an open all hours strip club, casino, and a fair selection of prostitutes at the side of the deserted country road. A tad unexpected, especially since it was 2 pm! It’s still very green and mountainous, and still very hotsy totsy and sunny! yay! Arrived in Prague at 6, not bad, and got beeped by the first GB car we've seen since Germany - yay!! Prague was pretty grubby on the outskirts but the centre is beautiful. Every other building seems to be mentioned in the guide book! And the castle on the horizon is stunning - so big!! We are crashing at Dan’s Czech girlfriend, Eva’s house so we met up with her and her friends and were led to the smokiest pub ever! I cant get over how much Europeans smoke. In the time it took ant to guzzle a pint, they had 3 ciggies each!! Mad! Dumped all our stuff at Eva’s, had a delicious Chinese for £3 each, then headed back to another pub to let Eva get us suitably trollied! More drinking, I never drink at home!! |
