Aarhus - in the middle of our street............Well Danish land gained a few points after getting a super quick ferry across to Aarhus, it made our public transport system look like something out of Cambodia! In Aarhus we've learnt that English people (me and ant in particular!) are even un-fitter than first expected! Lasse’s 10 minute walk to his house turned out to be a longer hike than our one in Copenhagen; and possibly longer than our disastrous Inca trail trek last year! This point was reinforced the next day when we commandeered a couple of city bikes (fantastic idea!), and cycled to one of their many beaches. Lasse and Kristin arrived looking, well, alive for starters, and ready to fight any Dane for a speck of sand in their enclosed, clean beach. Ant and me finally arrived after a couple of near squashings (didn’t realise that the bike lanes had their own traffic lights! oops!) and ready to collapse and start burning, after a zap ice cream! More points to Danish land for zap ice creams! It turned out that stripping off around a load of tanned, slim, toned people was far more depressing than in Copenhagen; so we tried retail therapy, but after £7 for a Maccy d's our bank account said 'no!' The next day we saw the huge model of the boy, the 'old town' (a bunch of people walking around in clogs, making bread and getting paid for pretending they live in the past!), a big windmill (?) and even more bikes! I honestly can’t describe how many bikes there are; it seemed like even more than in Amsterdam, and they have such cool bikes! So a pretty random day, with lots of naps in parks in between obviously! Also, just a quick, random point - the Danes are so weird when they cross the road; they only ever cross at pelican crossings and never cross if there's a red man, even in the middle of the night when the roads are empty! Silly Danish! Belinda - you were so right about hotdogs! They are everywhere and so yummy! Lasse - we promise to bring more money next time! And I’m really impressed by how pretty your Danish land is! Copenhagen - lovely lovely danish land!So Lasse, I hate to admit it but Danish land is really cool! We’ve seen an international hobo footie contest where a bunch of hobos from each of the Scandinavian countries play in a tournament in the square in front of the radhuss - just great! And they're much more civilized than us with their jazz festival taking over every square in the country! We’ve also been to an amazing theme park that made my belly go funny, eaten lots of Danish pastries, had lots of naps in lots of pretty parks and walked far too much! We decided that it would be a good idea to do the walking tour of Copenhagen - what a silly idea! We saw some really drunk hobos, lots of fountains, lots of marching guards (that couldn’t count, silly Danish!), stopped at too many bars by canals, saw lots of statues of good ol' Hans, and finished with a rather disappointing statue of 'the little mermaid'! quite a success really! My conclusion of Copenhagen: way too expensive, six pounds for 500ml of beer! And way too pretty, the girls are so tanned, slim and blonde, I’ve never felt so hideous! |
